Mandatory Experience Criteria: (MUST be clear on your CV how you meet each criteria)

The individual must clearly demonstrate they have all the mandatory experience criteria below included the minimum of years of experience requested.

· Significant experience for the last five years in writing, collaborating and developing communication products such as: articles, fact sheets, brochures, media response lines, new releases, speeches, reports, presentations, strategies and plans;

· Significant experience for the last five years in drafting and editing communication products and Web content;

· Demonstrate a minimum of five years of experience in the last seven years in drafting multiple communication products for various audiences;

· Demonstrate a minimum of four years of experience in the last five years in managing government Web initiatives that include Internets, Intranets and social media related channels;

· Demonstrate a minimum of four years of experience in the last five years in performing changes updates and uploads and maintenance of web content using various web based applications;

· Demonstrate minimum of four years of experience in the last five years in social media initiatives, trends and/or strategies that drive web traffic to the site;

· Demonstrate a minimum of four years of experience in the last five years in working with a communications and/or Web team;

· Demonstrate a minimum of three years of experience in the last five years in working in a Government of Canada setting;

· Demonstrate a minimum of three years of experience in the last five years in using one or more content management systems (CMS);

· One year experience in the last two years in writing about one of the following areas: science, technology, innovation or space; and

· One year experience in the last two years in compiling technical information and converting it into plain language.

The Job Description:

The Communications Officer would assist the Head of Communications with the development, planning and implementation of various communications initiatives and activities. The communications officer would also support web related functions related to drafting and editing content for the web and support the web manager with updating the website, uploading content and provide advice on web trends, strategy and other related web aspects.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:

· Support Agency and Centre communications initiatives;

· Edit content of brochures, speeches, reports, presentations, press releases;

· Assist in the planning and implementation of communication plans;

· Research and Analysis and verify facts;

· Writing for various audiences;

· Collaborate on the development of new communications products (articles, fact sheets, brochures, etc.);

· Using established writing methods to create first drafts of complex science and technology projects;

· Coordinating the organization of meetings, ceremonies and other events for internal and external audiences if required;

· Writing various communications products such as; brochures, speeches, reports, presentations, news releases, media response lines, web content, articles, communications plans and fact sheets;

· Provide Intranet and Internet support at to both the Agency and Centre level as required;

· Develop and edit the content and style of Internet and Intranet sites:

· Support the delivery of internet and intranet sites while working with web teams;

· Experienced in social media initiatives, trends and strategies that drive web traffic to the site while working with a content management system;

· Coordinating the organization of meetings, ceremonies and other events for internal and external audiences;

· Experience in a Government of Canada setting;

· Using established writing methods to create first drafts of complex science and technology projects; and

· Support the document review process to ensure that scientific and technical documents are written in plain language, that common messaging is used and that the content is cleared with respect to controlled goods.
